{"id":1474,"date":"2017-06-19T11:10:15","date_gmt":"2017-06-19T11:10:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.crcasia.org\/?p=1474"},"modified":"2019-03-20T08:00:42","modified_gmt":"2019-03-20T08:00:42","slug":"position-paper-philippine-tax-reform-should-benefit-children-and-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.crcasia.org\/position-paper-philippine-tax-reform-should-benefit-children-and-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"POSITION PAPER: Philippine Tax Reform Should Benefit Children and Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Child Rights Coalition Asia (CRC Asia) issued its position paper on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crcasia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Tax-policy-revised-package-1-HB4774-briefing-as-of-May-8.pdf\">Philippine Tax Reform Bill<\/a> underscoring that tax reform should benefit children and youth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tax reform should include provisions that should guarantee 1) the transparency on public resources, 2) the earmarking of health, education, and protection and 3) the participation of members of society, including children, in the budget process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The logic is simple: A transparent financial system contributes to increased public budget for children by impeding corruption and mismanagement of funds; Investing in social services for children is a crucial way to uphold their best interests; Lastly, encouraging children\u2019s participation in the budget process ensures that they are able to harness and safeguard their rights and that their welfare is never forgotten in the fund-allocation process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CRC Asia recognizes that personal income tax reduction, a major component of the tax reform package, can directly benefit children and youth. Families will have more dispensable income which they can allocate to children\u2019s health, education, and other survival and development needs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CRC Asia also supports the taxation of sugary drinks to promote children\u2019s nutrition and create a healthy society.
